In a fire, the first minutes are decisive. A fire detection and warning system exists precisely to detect the start of a fire early and to alert people in time to get to safety.
The detectors
There are several types, chosen according to the environment: optical smoke detectors are the most common for offices and homes; heat detectors are used where smoke is normally present (kitchens, garages); gas detectors signal leaks of methane or LPG and carbon monoxide.
The control panel and warnings
All detectors report to a control panel which, in case of an alarm, triggers audible-visual warnings (sirens and beacons) and can command actions such as sending a notification or cutting the power. The panel also reports faults and low batteries, so the system stays under control at all times.
The UNI 9795 standard
Design and installation follow the UNI 9795 standard, which defines the number and positioning of detectors, division into zones, fire-resistant cable routes and warning criteria. Compliance is essential both for safety and for inspections by the relevant authorities.
Maintenance
A fire system must be kept effective over time: periodic detector tests, checks of the panel and batteries, a logbook of interventions. Regular maintenance is what guarantees the system actually works when it's needed.
